But my mom insisted that we had to go, not just once a week, but three times: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday -the most dreadful nights of the week. My brother and I would complain, using homework as an excuse to get out of it, but that rarely worked. My mom promised us that once we reached black belt, we could choose whether to continue or not. Many years and countless arguments later—both in class and at home—I finally earned my black belt. Only in that moment did I feel proud and confident, realizing how years of dedication and hard work can be empowering. That milestone inspired me to continue practicing Taekwondo for 16 years, shaping me into the person I am today.
